Erica’s experience in the equestrian industry includes over 18 years of riding.  She grew up in Southern California where she spent many years working under a hunter jumper trainer.

She attended the University of California, Davis where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Animal Science and Management with an equine emphasis. While attending UC Davis she was part of the Animal Science Department’s Horse Barn show team, where she advanced her riding experience by training and exercising stallions who competed in reining and reined cow horse competitions. She also competed and earned the title of World Champion Interscholastic Pack Team at Bishop Mule Days.

During her years at the Horse Barn she also completed two of the facilities in-depth and competitive internships. As a Foal Manager she was responsible for broodmare care both pre and post parturition, the foaling of facility and client mares, tracking breeding and herd records, vaccination schedules and administration, training yearlings for their annual production sale and halter breaking weanlings. As a Stallion Manager she was responsible for the facilities stallion care, handling stallions in the breeding shed, collection of stallions with artificial vaginas, assisting with phantom training new facility and client stallions, semen evaluation, processing and shipping of cooled semen, assisting with freezing, storage, inventory, and shipping of frozen semen, breeding of mares by means of Artificial Insemination as well as ultrasound and palpation of facilities brood mares. In her Senior year she was promoted to the Horse Barn Breeding Manager where she trained and managed the facility herd as well as assisting in the instruction of the students in the Foal and Stallion Manager internship programs. She assisted with and helped coordinate many large outreach events for the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at the Horse Barn. These educational programs included an annual Public Horse Day, FFA Field Day Horse Judging, Picnic Day public displays and performances on equine reproduction, displays at events and horse shows, tours for outside groups including high school FFA groups, local 4H groups, Community College Equine classes and Pony Clubs.

After graduation, Erica moved to Northern Nevada and worked as a Breeding Manager at a ranch in Washoe Valley. She managed the breeding and embryo recipient herd with regards to herd health, reproduction and farrier schedules. She also assisted with the exercise and training of young animals from halter breaking to saddle breaking. Erica also worked as a veterinary assistant at a large animal hospital where she worked along-side the veterinarians during medical procedures on client animals both in-hospital and by ambulatory means.

Erica founded Ridgeview Equine in 2021. She is passionate about helping both riders and horses progress in their education and takes an overall approach to horsemanship with a lifestyle in mind. She welcomes equine enthusiasts of all ages, levels and disciplines into the Ridgeview Equine community and looks forward to helping you along your journey!
